The Telugu Desam Party leaders in Kurnool might be putting up brave front over the resignation of senior leader Shilpa Mohan Reddy from the party and his defection into the YSR Congress party, but he gave them a rude shock on Wednesday.
Shilpa joined the YSR Congress party in the presence of party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy amidst a lot of fanfare.
Along with a large number of MPTCs, ZPTCs, Nandyal municipal councillors and a big group of the TDP leaders and cadre also joined the YSRC, giving a death blow to the TDP.
Interestingly, most of these leaders were once strong followers of late Nandyal MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy and they all defected to the TDP along with him and his daughter Bhuma Akhila Priya last year.
Though Akhila stayed back in the TDP and got the ministerial berth, the cadre preferred to sail with her rival Shilpa Mohan Reddy into the YSRC, because they felt they would have a safe and secure political future there.
Now, Akhila has to struggle a lot to get the TDP elected from Nandyal in the forthcoming byelections. Yet, she has not lost her heart.
“We are in fact very much relieved with the defection of Shilpa. Let him tell one good thing he has done for Nandyal. The people are disgusted with him and I am sure, they have complete faith in our family,” he said.
