AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu Responding to the comments made on him by Pawan Kalyan, said many people, including the actor-turned politician, had expressed doubts over his sincerity on the issue of special status.
He said Pawan was of the opinion that he was soft pedaling with the Centre on the issue because he was scared of cases. “I did not fear death when the Alipiri incident took place. I fought with former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who had ordered 25 inquires and went to the court but could do nothing. That being the situation, where is the question of fearing the Centre,” he asked.
Stating that there was no question of compromise on the issue of special category status for Andhra Pradesh, he said Pawan should know that the Centre had promised not only the special category status to Andhra Pradesh but there are many more assurances, including completing the Polavaram project within a time-bound period.
He said about 30,000 acres need to be acquired to rehabilitate the displaced persons under the project and most of them are tribals. The Centre has to help the state government. He said he was ready to hand over the project to the Centre if it was willing to take it up and complete it by 2019.
