Andhra pradesh State Cabinet which is scheduled to meet here on Thursday is all set to discuss the special package announced by the Centre for Andhra Pradesh. The Cabinet is meeting for the first time after the Centre announced the package as an alternative to the Special Category Status (SCS) which was promised to the State.
The Cabinet meeting which is likely to be held for four hours in the morning will discuss the merits of the special package and the compulsions of the State government to accept it in lieu of the SCS. Sources said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu are scheduled to give a presentation on the positive side of the package and the difficulties of the Central government in granting SCS in the light of the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission.
Though there is resentment across the State among the cross section of the people over the Centre denying the SCS to the State, the Chief Minister wants the Ministers and the senior leaders of the party to continue to campaign for the SCS without hitting at the BJP.
The continued voice for the Special Category Status would minimise the damage for the party, the Chief Minister is set to tell the Ministers. Besides the special package, the Cabinet will also discuss the new mission of fighting mosquitoes to make the State mosquito-free.
